2 of the biggest and most well respected gay travel companies – Respect Holidays & Throb have ceased trading this week. Both of these companies relied heavily on XL Airways, but the airline went into administration last week. The Respect Holidays statements says “Unfortunately, unlike members of the travelling public, Respect has no protection against losses sustained by the closure of XL and in the current climate we are simply unable to take these losses in our stride.”

Holidays to traditional gay holiday destinations have also been suffering in recent years, especially in Gran Canaria, where some gay-only resorts are facing closure & visitor numbers are down at The Yumbo Centre.
